Meet the owner

Hi there, I’m Shayla Baggett: woman of faith, wife, mother, and owner of Dreamcatcher Doula LLC: Childbirth Services. My journey into motherhood  sparked my interest in becoming a birth doula. When my husband and I found out we were expecting our son, I knew that I wanted a low intervention, holistic approach to my prenatal care and birth. As we made strides in preparing for the birth, it became evident there was a huge lack of informational support in my birthing community. Our approach was far different from any of our family, friends, or community members. This resulted in us feeling alone, scared, and confused. We desperately needed informational support so that we could make informed choices about our options, we needed emotional support to have the confidence to advocate for ourselves, and we needed physical support during the trials of labor and to help establish good breastfeeding habits after birth. After giving birth to my son and reflecting on my pregnancy, labor, birth, and the immediate postpartum period as a whole, I saw a void. My husband and immediate family were a great support system, but ultimately they were not experts in prenatal health, labor, birth, etc. Neither my husband nor my mother had experienced unmedicated birth or breastfed therefore, they could not provide me with the type of support that I so greatly needed. This made me realize there are so many other mothers in my community who may have faced or are facing the same void in support. I wanted to help mothers and families find their voice and advocate for themselves. I wanted to help mothers’ feel heard, validated and supported through every twist and turn of pregnancy, birth, and postpartum.

I decided to be the change I wanted to see by becoming a Certified Birth Doula, Certified Placenta Expert, and Certified Childbirth Educator through BEST Doula Training. I have also obtained my Food Handling Certification, Blood Borne Pathogens Certification, and CPR/AED/First Aid Certification. I believe everyone should experience the birth of their dreams wether that be a vaginal, cesarean, VBAC, medicated, unmedicated, water, land, hospital, birthing center, or home birth. I want to support families in making their dreams come true, one birth at a time! Over time, I have expanded my range of services to include not only birth doula services, but educational classes, placenta services, belly painting, and photography as well.

*Fun Facts About Me*- I have a huge sweet tooth, especially for all things chocolate. When I’m not busy with my wifely, motherly, and business duties, I enjoy fellowshipping with my family and friends, spending time in nature, thrifting, playing piano, cooking, journaling, and reading. My favorite book is Created to be His Help Meet by Debi Pearl and my favorite magazine subscription is Above Rubies by Nancy Campbell.
