You don't have to birth the way they say you do!
Hi there, I’m Shayla Baggett: woman of faith, wife, mother, and owner of Dreamcatcher Doula LLC Spa and Childbirth Services. My journey into motherhood is what sparked my interest in becoming a birth doula. When my husband and I found out we were expecting our son, I knew that I wanted to take a low intervention, holistic approach to my prenatal care and birth. As we made strides in preparing for the birth of our baby, it became evident that there was a huge lack of informational support in my birthing community. Our approach was far different from any of our family, friends, or community members. This resulted in us feeling alone, scared, and confused. We desperately needed informational support so that we could make informed choices about our options, we needed emotional support to have the confidence to advocate for ourselves, and we needed physical support during the trials of labor and to help establish good breastfeeding habits after birth. After I gave birth to my son and reflected on my pregnancy, labor, birth, and the immediate postpartum period as a whole, I saw a void. My partner and immediate family were a great support system, but ultimately they were not experts in prenatal health, labor, birth, etc. Neither my husband nor my mother had experienced unmedicated birth or breastfed therefore, they could not provide me with the type of support that I so greatly needed. This made me realize that there are so many other mothers in my community who may have faced or are facing the same void in support. I wanted to do something about this, I wanted to help mothers and families find their voice and advocate for themselves. I wanted to help mothers’ feel heard, validated and supported through every twist and turn of pregnancy, birth, and postpartum.
I decided to be the change I wanted to see by becoming a Certified Birth Doula, Certified Placenta Expert, and Certified Childbirth Educator through BEST Doula Training. I have also obtained my Food Handling Certification, Blood Borne Pathogens Certification, and CPR/AED/First Aid Certification. I believe that everyone should get to experience the birth of their dreams wether that be a vaginal, cesarean, VBAC, medicated, unmedicated, water, land, hospital, birthing center, or home birth. I want to support families in making their dreams come true, one birth at a time! Although my passion for birth is what sparked the creation of Dreamcatcher Doula LLC, I have since expanded my range of services to include not only birth doula services, but massage therapy, facials, waxing, educational classes, placenta services, belly painting, party planning, and photography as well.
Not expecting? Not a problem! Here at Dreamcatcher Doula LLC, my goal is to make all women's wellness dreams come true. I enjoy helping others achieve relaxation and rejuvenation through prenatal, infant, deep tissue, and Swedish massage therapy, organic facials, and facial and body waxing. *Fun Facts About Me*- I have a huge sweet tooth, especially for all things chocolate. I love collecting books, candles, and pictures. When I’m not busy with my wifely, motherly, and business duties, I enjoy fellowshipping with my family and friends, spending time in nature, thrift store shopping, playing piano, scrapbooking, knitting or sewing, and reading. My favorite TV show is the Golden Girls and my favorite book is Created to be His Help Meet by Debi Pearl. If you have made it to the end of this bio you have realized that although I am fairly young in body, I have a grandmother’s soul.
